When I was younger I never threw anything away. This isn't to say I was a hoarder. I threw mostly useless shit away sure. But I was a collector (as in collectibles) so I had a lot of things that were collected. Maybe it was some OCD "everything in a line" problem. I liked to have the collection, complete the collection, and think that I'd never get rid of the collection. I had ...
I became a steady collector of comic books in 1990. Before that, I had loved super-heroes, but lacking any steady place to pick up comics. It was always a few here and a few there. Over the last 20 years (with a short period of maybe 3 years when I had stopped collecting) I've amassed a huge collection of comic books. The problem is, I'm no longer a collector. I still love reading ...
My break in writing from my blog usually coincides with my travels for my job, but there will probably be a slightly more extended break in certain aspects of my writing. More specifically, comic book reviews may be absent until releases get back on track. Thanksgiving pretty much broke my rhythm. Since my comics usually come from Midtown Comics (with no alternative in my immediate area), my comics are usually delivered on Saturday. With the ...
How about that? Reviews on a Thursday? How can it be? I was up in New Jersey this week, so I suspended my Midtown Comics subscription, opting instead to stop by my local comic shop and say hello. It also meant that I actually received my comics on a Wednesday instead of the Saturday delivery that I've been getting with Midtown. I definitely miss grabbing issues fresh off the rack.
I'm becoming very much disenfranchised with Midtown Comics. I signed on to their subscription program because there aren't any quality comic book stores in my area of Virginia, but Midtown Comics has been disappointing me with just about every obstacle that pops up.
This time, I ordered the trade paperback for War of Kings: Road to War of Kings, and unlike the last time I ordered separate comics and payed for two shipping ...
Things did not go as planned this weekend. I had missed the episode of Fringe on Thursday night (DVR'ing it), and didn't watch it later in the night like I normally do. I didn't watch it Friday either, but figured Saturday could be a day of television and comic books and I could get two blog posts done by the time everything was all finished.
This post is late. This post is beyond late. In fact, I'm actually writing it on a Tuesday and back dating it for Saturday just so I don't mess up my naming convention. To add a little more fuel on the lateness fire, this post consists of comics for last week and the week prior. I spent some time in New Jersey recently, and it forced me to put my mail on hold ...
Ok. I'm back, but notice the date change. These reviews are now going to be posted on Saturday. A little later than I would like, but I'm trying out Midtown Comics, and their deliveries don't show up until Saturday. Why Midtown Comics? The closest comic book store to my new home town is in Harrisonburg, Virginia; but unfortunately, when I walked through their doors on Wednesday at around 4:30pm, their shelves ...
In the midst of moving to Virginia and starting a new job, I really wasn't sure if I was going to get this review in on time... but here it is. Two highly anticipated books debuted this week: Superman: Secret Origin and Spider-Woman. More on those later. The important thing to notice in the higher ratio of $3.99 to $2.99 books that seem to be popping up. If this gets any worse ...
Lots of books to go over this week, and quite a few rants too. As a whole, I'd have to say that it was a good week for the comic books that I read, being pretty much anchored by the excellent Batman and Robin #4, featuring the Red Hood. More on that later though.
Action Comics #881:I long for the days that Geoff Johns was writing solid Superman stories in Action Comics. I ...
Normally I'd drop a blog review of the week's comic book pulls on the following day of their release, but since new books came out on a Thursday due to the Labor Day holiday, I'm all about punctuality. Imagine that. This was another light week however... so don't expect the Magna Carta
To the pull list...
Superman: World of New Krypton: I'm really tired of this New Krypton/World Without ...
Why Marvel and DC insist on having a huge chunk of titles dropping on the same week I'll never know. Last week was a nightmare for the wallet, while this week, I felt like an idiot walking up to the counter with a single book - an annual. If that annual hadn't come out, I would have been leaving empty-handed. Seriously guys, spread your titles out a little more. It'll actually increase sales ...
Have you heard the news? Comic books aren't for kids anymore. Oh, you have heard. But do you know the reason? Not because of the highly complex tales. No. No. Simply because of the highly, err... high cost.
I made the largest purchase of my life on Friday. As such, I need to start cutting back on some of my expenses. I love comic books, but I'll be honest with you. The cost ...
