Freddie Mercury versus Darkseid

posted in comic books on

Let's be honest, Freddie Mercury is a comic book character in his own right. His flamboyant stage presence and otherworldly persona cemented him not only in music mythology, but in pop culture mythology as well. His contributions to the pop culture, such as the Highlander theme song and the theme to the Flash Gordon movie are just barely surpassed by his mainstream sports culture odes "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions." Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" has been both remade and featured in the self-referential cult comedy movie Wayne's World, and Mercury even gets extra points for the insane "Bicycle Race" and just for having the stones to name a song "Fat Bottomed Girls."

It would only seem natural then that the highly creative Freddie Mercury - in some strange alternate universe of colored panels and word balloons - would use his creativity to fuel a super-hero career.

From artist Chris Haley comes the ultimate showdown between Freddie Mercury and DC Comics' fearsome super-villain Darkseid.

Freddie Mercury versus Darkseid

Freddie Mercury would naturally be the greatest Green Lantern of all time. His willpower is stronger than Hal Jordan's and his creativity far surpasses that of Kyle Raynor.

Mercury grew up in India and was of Iranian Parsee descent, which made him a member of the Zoroastrian community. In fact, his funeral was overseen by a Zoroastrian priest. The richness of Zoroastrian cosmology is enough to fully qualify Mercury as a valued and powerful member of the Green Lantern Corps.
